THE REBEL DREAD

DON LETTS

Grammy award winning film maker Don Letts’ reputation has been firmly established in both the film and music world by a substantial body of work from the late 70’s through to the

present day. He came to notoriety in the late 70's as the DJ that single handedly turned a whole generation of punks onto reggae as DJ at the legendary Roxy Club.

His first film 'The Punk Rock Movie’ led to a period directing over 300 music videos for a diverse range of artists from The Clash to Bob Marley to Sinead O’Connor. In the mid-eighties he co-foundedthe group Big Audio Dynamite with Mick Jones (The Clash).

Film credits include documentaries on Gil Scott Heron - Paul McCartney - George Clinton - Sun Ra and feature films ’Dancehall Queen’ and ‘One Love’. His autobiography 'There & Black Again’ was released on Omnibus in 2023 as was his debut solo album ‘Outta Sync’.

Recently the subject of the documentary ‘Rebel Dread’ himself he currently has own show on BBC 6Music and continues to DJ globally.

To date he’s also been awarded three honorary degrees for his contribution to culture.
